Quite the Leap Call me sceptical but as usual the PR defies logic. This is a company that touts webinars. They have been dining out on a POC for 3 years. They are now telling the market they not only produced samples of their new chip, built new AP's, did a pilot and didn't utter a word to anyone. Sorry, I'm not buying that for a minute. Also, their R&D budget for the past couple of years has been pennies. How did they fund this? BTW the distribution agreement was announced 6 years ago. I’m curious how it was expanded when they have never sold a thing in all that time. I'll chalk it up to the usual puffery.
Another of yfi's peccadilloes is always announcing "new" initiatives. I've lost count of the number of times they have announced they have a dev kit now available. This time it's they are expanding their addressable market into IOT. It was I think about 6 years ago, when IOT was suddenly the rage, they launched their brand spanking new IoTAir™ (lol). Which was just a new name for their mini van sized Aera AP. What's old is new, I guess.
Then of course their is the issue of wifi for IOT. 5g is the tech that is far preferable in an Industrial setting. Range, latency, speed and capacity are all better served with 5g. Which isn't to say wifi can't be used. It is. And by all accounts the ole dead single channel does the job, because in an industrial setting if it doesn't the company can't do business.
How many times have they said something is just around the corner. I've lost track. An LOI is a useless piece of paper that does nothing but say we maybe might possibly will do something. At minimum Yfi needs cash to go through all the production processes, which isn't cheap, and build actual product. They're gonna need to raise money and fast.
Lastly, if I was shopping for an IOT solution would I even consider a company that is broke has no product available to sell and may be gone shortly after I buy it? Don't think so. It's career limiting. So all the the above said, good luck. Personally I think the Rare demo center is more likely to appear than this deal.
