Mexico never stated the ban on open-pit mining til Feb 2024 (most feel it was an election posturing). I do feel AMLO wanted expropriation as he did in 2022 formalizing in 2023 on lithium which has been kinda a dusaster. No lithium production. Lots of international lawsuits / USMCA. even Claudia thinking about using fracking by oil companies to get lithium out of clay. States and Governments are best left to governance not running industries. That just keeps being proven over and over in Mexico. Expropriation simply does not work. Companies may be horrible but we know governments are worse. I believe Mexico is not in the financial shape it was when AMLO took over. It can ill avoid taking yet another ideological venture with its politics in the next 6 years.
