This idea has been around for a long time and at the current price differential Cu is preferred overwhelmingly. That might change. The article is long on opinion and short on hard numbers. I'll try and find some relevant info this weekend. You would have to imagine that if an abundant and significantly cheaper alternative was really a good choice it would take some of the market, but not yet. Maybe at $10/lb though? Another interesting fact, Sunrise Metals (Friedland related) stress the potential importance of aluminum-scandium alloys as steel replacements in vehicle making. Much lighter and nearly as strong as steel. The future is waiting.
