RE:We are not prepared for a cyber catastropheIn a world of interconnected systems all dependant upon one another that are forcibly updated to stay "connected". The typical computer system without an isolated kernel will always been vulnerable to such an issue. In a world of automation and more complicated electronics ( think fly by wire planes, which use ZERO manual input but %100 electronic control ) you cannot have global updates causing outages. QNX is a shining star today, people may not realize it yet but CNN mentioned it in their article today about the crowdstrike incident. The way most modern systems update through and non isolated kernel leaves them vulnerable to moments like today . Micro kernel systems will never fail their core processes. They are completely independent from the secondary processes and immune to outside threat. Safety, responsiveness and dependability. Planes stay flying, cars stay braking and y Computers stay running.
