A better more clear example might be! One million shares of company X trades of which 500k shares are shorted. So short sales come up as 50% for that day. The next day there are only 500k shares traded and it shows no short sales. However, the 500k shares that were traded were to cover the day before shorts. So while the chart shows no short sales all sales that day were actually related to the original short. At least that is how I understand the reporting!
None of this is not to say this is not covered in another report as I am sure TMX knows as they report days to cover so they must track the covering of the short.....
