Meant to add: on a positive note - China cornering the market on nickel and thereby furthering their EV industry means the mineral is more strategic that ever.

You have to believe that the American establishment is looking at that ore only  90 miles off their Florida coast, and pondering how they crack that nut.  Prying Cuba away from Russia's increasing embrace, then getting past the whole "those commies stole our assets" thing would also have to get a solution.

But, America is nothing if not the best at its own self interest.  If nickel is getting harder to source, you can bet your Sherritt shares they are thinking about that little improverished regime.  A little regime  change would do it a whole lot of good - and! - validate poor JFK to boot.

On the flip side though, there is a lot of nickel in regions that are far friendlier to the American empire.
