“I was filling that up at levels that they’ve never seen before. " But the actual SPR inventory levels show that from the time trump took office in Jan 2017 until the time he left office in 2021 the actual SPR inventory levels went down. 56 994 000 barrels.
Obviously refilling the SPR would be very good for WTI pricing but there is a price point when it would become cost prohibitive and they would probably put a stop to repurchases. It would put a nice floor under it though. But isn't that already happening?
In fact, from the SPR inventory low point of
346,758,000 barrels in July of 2023 the SPR has grown by 29,075,000 barrels to 375 833 000 barrels which is more than trump ever put back into the SPR at anytime. Granted he didn't drain it nearly as much as biden but he also wasn't dealing with runaway global inflation. It would have been very interesting to see how he would have dealt with that given his aversion to higher interst rates and his previous run-ins with the FED. Hopefully we will never know.
