Electrical Requirements for 1000TPY Plant There is a lot of bashing going around about energy requirements for a 1000TPY plant. Assuming a plant produces 1000TPY and runs 5 days a week for 24 hours it would need a roughly 2000A 600v service in Canada to provide the power for this. I assume about 2MW of power. This is quite a bit but nowhere near as much as large steel foundries that operate Electric Arc Furnaces. Most large electrical infrastructures in an around cities could provide this much power. There are even current buildings that could be repurposed or used for this much power. The best part is the system doesn't produce the co2 that the conventional way so there are not the emissions that would block these large players from entering into large residential areas.
This is using Bernard's worst case estimate of 12kwh per kg. If we assumed 8 kWh instead we are looking at 33% smaller electrical service.
I don't doubt Evonik has locations and sites that currently have this much power available to them as well as other big players.
Dont let the bashers scare you. Go HPQ go!
