Might be a waste of money. Or they might be proving up a district sized resource that will be bought by a major for $500 million to $1.5 billion and developed into one of the major copper mines that will be needed for any chance at an energy transition. In that case it will prove a good investment. Clearly more copper supply has to be added. And it takes a long time to start a new mine. The majors don't want to invest in exploration, they would rather pick the best of the opportunities that are discovered and proved up. The size of the resource, the grade, suitability for mining, the location, the jurisdiction - all important.
