OMNI is pleased to have engineered, delivered and commissioned the plasma torch systems for EarthGrid PBC’s groundbreaking plasma tunnel-boring technology. OMNI’s Senior Process Engineer and Project Lead, Scott Reid; Manager EIC Engineering, Bill Zou and Global Training Manager, Sabrina Butz visited EarthGrid in Richmond, California to set-up, commission, and train EarthGrid’s technicians and engineering group on how to successfully operate OMNI’s patented plasma technology.

Exciting news from my team at EarthGrid PBC! We have successfully lit 3x torches of our brand new 6x torch development system. This is a major milestone on the pathway of developing our first tunneling machines! Volume warning on this video!

Back in August 2023, our engineering team consisted of 2 full-time people. Fast forward to today, and we've grown our engineering team to ~10 full-time. We're still a small team of mostly generalists compared to the outside impact we’re having.

While this is a small victory in the grand vision of EarthGrid, it is no minor feat. Our development machine includes 7+ trailers of equipment to successfully operate our 3 MW of torches for our initial testing campaigns. Much of this equipment has lead times of 12+ months and has been no easy task to get it more quickly, especially since we’ve been actively working on this design only since November 2023.

There’s still a lot of work ahead as we look forward to executing our test campaign in the near future, but it is important to celebrate the wins and progress long the way!

Guess we didn't pass the "multiple-torch system" test either compared to Omni. Rest assured Peter and Co. will keep this on their business development highlights for the next couple quarters until they don't. Just like all the other legs on the stool.
