FN's supports mining until they don't and you guess which day!  Why companies would even want to take the risk of doing business (mining or otherwise) on FNs traditional land is beyond me.

Province orders halt to NW BC jade mining - North of 60 Mining News (miningnewsnorth.com)

I know I'll never be investing in another mining company whose properties are on FNs land in the future.  The risks are high enough without the FN's factor.

In my opinion.

But at least the FN big picture message is consistant.  All they want is assurance that if everything fails, they will still be able to exist from traditional natural resources.  When it becomes clear that this is threatened they get twitchy.  And for good reason as the "modern society" has pretty much ignored the health of the environment in favour of resource extraction.

In the case of Victoria Gold, I believe that initially they had a pretty good relationship with FN's until this latest incident.  Then it was like, we've seen this too many times before and need to do what we can to put a stop to it.

Surely we need to learn from what has happened and seek out environmentally friendly solutions, ideally solutions that more than leave a neutral footprint but actually enhance the environmental quality of the area.
