Propose a license agreement with HC for avian flu development. The poultry industry produces more than 800 million dozen eggs annually. Turkey and chicken production is over 1.5 Billion kilos annually. There are more than 2,000 registered chicken farms and over 500 turkey farms in Canada. Ontario and Quebec both have near, or over 600 chicken farms. Sell the potential to avoid a clear catastrophy and show some public investment to protect the food supply.
Roger, please approach the appropriate government agency that regulates poultry.
IMO.

Completely agree...
The ubiquitous transferrin receptor is not only utilized as a revolving door to bring iron into cells, it is currently being hijacked by the influenza virus, which includes the avian flu, to gain entry into host cells & begin its infection cycle. As Dr. Mandel stated, an agent that competes for/blocks this receptor can open a new door or strategy for the prevention & treatment of various types of viral infection. Current therapies function primarily by inhibiting DNA replication...after the cells are already infected.
So, this mechanism of action not only adresses the potential threat of an avian flu, but it has the potential to target the "current" yearly/seasonal threats/costs of influenza A and B. It has been estimated (per Flu.gov) that there is ~$7 Billion in lost productivity annually in the US alone. The CDC has estimated that seasonal flu outbreaks cost the US economy > $10 Billion in direct costs of hospitalizations & outpatient visits.
On a federal level, you would think there should be little resistance to a licensing agreement...& HC may be the best start. All imo...
