I was union for 16 years in my younger days IWA(steelworkers) and got turned off because I would rather work than go on strike when it was obviosly a lost cause and the idiots would sit on a picket line for months before finally backing down. Meanwhile I worked and never spent a day on the line. I guess I was a scab because we were contractors and they wouldn't let us vote in strike votes but we had to pay our dues every month thank you very much. Later on I owned a couple companies and we stayed non-union. We paid better than union rates and let them work as much as they wanted. I don't know one of them thats living on the street now that I'm retired and living good.
