RE:PNG in the news......

RE:PNG in the news......I just left PNG today and am now in the Solomons. The fighting has been going on for about four weeks but has increased to the point that both tribes have about 200 warriors each. One tribe moved into another tribes land and tried to get into the open pit, violence started. It has been guerrilla style fighting but is getting bigger. It is thought that around 100 rifles are scattered amoung the fighters. A lot of houses and buildings have been burned and it is increasingly unsafe for villagers in the area. 30 people have been killed including 2 mine security men. the mine has been slowing down for a while and now is closed for a couple of days. The government is sending reinforcements to the area.
