Gateway vs. Smart Gateway

Gateway vs. Smart Gateway

Is anyone else wondering at the naming choice? 

Would be ok if it was just merging/replacing Smart Gateway, but NR says this is new standalone hardware.

It's a confusing (and rather unimaginative) name choice. Why would hardware arguably superior to Smart Gateway be just "Gateway"?
