Hey there,

Let's clear up a bit of confusion. While stainless steel, an alloy containing nickel, is vital for building hydrogen infrastructure due to its corrosion resistance - it's not the primary driver of demand. That distinction belongs to nickel itself, which is the essential component of the electrolyzer's catalyst.

Chromite (an element in stainless) on the other hand, has no significant role in hydrogen production. So, while stainless steel is crucial for durability, and nickel is the key catalyst material, chromite's relevance here is minimal.

You're incorrect about the revelance of chromite in hydrogen production. The ideal stainless used in production of hydrogen (316L) contains 16%-18% chromium and 10%-12% nickel.
