RE:RE:SometimesNL. Not to be contrarian, but I have seen this concept being suggested before. The problem is that the higher the total ask size is, the more pressure it puts on the SP. It weighs it down, slows upward momentum and also alters perception. This is why you will see these ridiculously high ask lots at prices that are far out of reach. This tactic is a powerful tool used by registered and passive shorts.
Have to disagree my friend with part of your answer, in fact putting offers way above the market has no effect on the SP whatsoever. Most look at the depth for 10 maybe 20 lines of offers so a $1 offer is way above that threshold and is rarely viewed. It certainly makes shorts scramble when suddenly over 300 million shares are offered at a buck :)
