Quebec to be anchor for Gold Fields’ diversification strat. Quebec to become ‘anchor’ for Gold Fields’ diversification strategy, CEO says - Gold Fields has announced a C$2.2 billion acquisition of Osisko Mining, which is set to close by the end of 2024 and will make Gold Fields the sole owner of the Windfall project in Quebec.
The deal is part of Gold Fields' strategy to diversify its portfolio, balancing aging assets in Ghana and Peru, and expanding its presence in lower-risk regions such as North America. (Source: https://www.mining.com/quebec-to-become-anchor-for-gold-fields-diversification-strategy-ceo-says/)
Furthermore, Osisko owns 22.3% of Vior Inc. (VIO.v VIORF), a junior miner in Quebec who is up 40% this week having launched a 60,000m drill program at its Belleterre Gold Project
Located in the historic Belleterre Greenstone Belt in Quebec’s Abitibi-Tmiscamingue region, the project consists of 635 claims covering 348 km² and includes the former Belleterre gold mine, which produced over 750,000 oz of gold and 95,000 oz of silver between 1936 and 1959. This district-scale exploration package represents a consolidation of highly prospective underexplored areas.
Running through mid-2025, this drill program is the largest at Belleterre since 1959 and aims to explore high-priority targets identified through extensive geological work. Key objectives include targeting 46,000m of drilling to extend gold mineralization along the 6-km Belleterre Mine Trend (historic high-grade zones with past production exceeding 750,000 oz of gold at an average grade of 10.7 g/t) alongside 14,000 meters of drilling to explore other areas of the project, focusing on varied commodities and mineralization styles, including gold, nickel, and base metals.
