Can you mine high grade orogenic gold at surface? Of course you can! In the Abitibi they mine it 3000 m down as well.
These NFG gold deposits are called "narrow vein deposits". Mining narrow vein deposits isn't for everyone and lot of big gold companies will shy away from them but eventually one of the mid-sized gold companies will make a go of it. How much more derisking does NFG have to do? I do not know. They are making good use of their time waiting.
