Don't have to sell electricity to BC Hydro.

KSI Lisims LNG could contract for electricity directly with an IPP. As someone mentioned on this forum, an undersea cable could be an option.

Preferred option is to have BC Hydro as the purchaser. If 200MW is the limit for projects then must contract directly with a buyer. An offshore project must be a minimum 400MW+ for the economics to work.

Would need to add provision for backup power if not connected to the BC Hydro grid.

Another example...

Martin Ince of MKI Wind Energy, suggests if they find an alternative buyer such as Highland Valley Copper, they would need to build their own transmission lines.

“Current regulations in BC do not allow power produced by independent power producers to be sold to anyone else and use BC Hydro powerlines, so the alternative is to build your own powerlines, to send users to a consumer who wants the power.”
