Pensylvania voters support cannabis legalization A majority of voters in five competitive state House districts in Pennsylvania support legalizing marijuana for recreational use.
The districts cut across the Keystone State. As an indication of bipartisan support, in four of the five districts in which voters were polled, former President Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris.
In the five districts, at least 64% in each support legalization. The highest support was seen in HD 16 (Beaver County) and HD 118 (Luzerne and Lackawanna Counties), where, respectively, 43% and 40% said they strongly support legalization.
Only medical-use cannabis is currently legal in the state.
The poll, conducted by Change Research for Responsible PA, an organization pushing for adult-use legalization, also found that from 66%-74%, depending on district, of those polled agreed that legalization would benefit the local economy.
Responsible PA also noted that a new analysis conducted by FTI Consulting found that Pennsylvania state coffers would add $2.1B in tax revenue in the first year of adult-use cannabis sales. Also, adult-use legalization would create more than 30,000 jobs in the first year, provide an additional $4.2B in economic output, contribute $2.6B in state GDP, and add $420M in recurring tax revenue.
On Sept. 19, a bipartisan bill was introduced in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives to legalize marijuana for adult use.
