🤠🐂Big bets were being placed on #Uranium & #NuclearEnergy Big bets were being placed on #Uranium & #NuclearEnergy last week as the #USA went all-in on its liftoff plan to TRIPLE #Nuclear while joined other Tech giants ready to say "I call!" Here's my weekly news recap: US Department of Energy released its updated Nuclear Liftoff Report showing that the US needs ~700–900 Gigawatts of additional clean firm power to achieve its NetZero by 2050 goal, with a TRIPLE of 24/7 carbon-free Nuclear by +200 Gigawatts as key. They forecast that US Uranium mining & milling must increase by ~71,000 metric tonnes U3O8 PER YEAR (+156 Million lbs) which for the US alone is a doubling of the entire global Uranium production of 2024! Nuclear power ticks every DOE box as the clear & cost-effective pathway to achieve NetZero energy security when you factor in the full benefit of 80-year clean firm reactors and leverage the existing workforce & supply chains used to build the Vogtle 3 & 4 Westinghouse AP-1000 reactors in Georgia. https://liftoff.energy.gov/advanced-nuclear/… The US Department of Energy finalized its $1.52 Billion loan to Holtec to ensure next year's restart of the Palisades Nuclear power plant in Michigan, the first ever restart of a shuttered reactor in US history. More reactor restarts & new reactor builds are now expected as DOE Loan Programs Officer Jigar Shah confirmed that he's received over $65 Billion in requests for both restarts & new builds across 13 states! There's “almost $300 Billion in the pipeline for the loan program that’s not yet been made public.” https://powermag.com/doe-finalizes-1-52b-palisades-loan-for-first-ever-u-s-nuclear-plant-recommissioning/… The US Department of Energy announced $100 Million in funding to establish a Nuclear safety training and workforce development program to support job growth in the US Nuclear energy sector that's projected to triple by 2050. https://energy.gov/ne/articles/department-energy-launches-100-million-nuclear-safety-training-and-workforce… Amazon's AWS, Oracle, OpenAI and Microsoft set the trend, so now the fat wallets of other big tech companies like Google are opening to invest in 24/7 reliable carbon-free Nuclear electricity to power their planned global build-out of multi-gigawatt AI data centers. Even Nvidia's CEO has said "it's impossible" to achieve AI expansion without Nuclear. https://thehill.com/policy/technology/4913714-google-ceo-eyeing-electricity-from-nuclear-plants-for-its-data-centers/… On the heels of Microsoft & Constellation Energy's plan to restart Three Mile Island, Germany's CDU party has called for the reactivation of shuttered Nuclear power plants and a halt to their decommissioning to ensure they can be restarted. https://merkur.de/wirtschaft/rueckkehr-zur-atomenergie-in-deutschland-neue-plaene-fuer-us-atomkraftwerk-sorgen-fuer-aufsehen-zr-93324291.html… Japan’s new economy minister said the country will maximize the use of its existing Nuclear power plants as artificial intelligence and data centers are expected to boost electricity demand. The new administration will support restarting as many reactors as possible. https://bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-10-02/japan-s-new-economy-minister-seeks-to-maximize-nuclear-restarts?srnd=undefined&sref=DLVyDcXJ… The Government of Canada announced a $13.6 Million investment from its Enabling Small Modular Reactors (SMR) Program for nine research projects to advance commercial development of "non-emitting, consistent and safe" Nuclear SMRs to contribute to the nation's low-carbon economy and help fight climate change. https://canada.ca/en/natural-resources-canada/news/2024/10/government-of-canada-advances-small-modular-reactor-research-and-development-with-136-million-investment.html?hsid=3d9f4dad-b48a-4008-88e9-f70e16377ed1… Bill Gates' Nuclear innovation company TerraPower announced that it has awarded Idaho-based Premier Technology a contract for the design, testing, fabrication and delivery of the sodium-air heat exchanger (AHX) and the air stack structures and equipment (ASE) for the Natrium Reactor Demonstration Project currently under construction in Kemmerer, Wyoming. https://terrapower.com/terrapower-awards-natrium-equipment-contract-to-premier-technology… The US Export-Import (Exim) Bank approved a US$98 Million loan for the development of Romania's first small modular reactor (SMR), marking a significant milestone in advancing Romania's clean energy goals.
