Market Chatter: Enbridge Receives First Permits to Reroute It Line 5 Pipeline Around a Wisconsin Reservation
01:08 PM EST, 11/15/2024 (MT Newswires) -- Enbridge (ENB.TO) received initial permits from Wisconsin regulators as it reroutes its Line 5 oil pipeline around a tribal reservation, Associated Press reported on Thursday.
The news agency said the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources issued construction permits for the project, which will route the pipeline that carries 540,000 barrels per day of Canadian oil to refineries in Michigan and Ontario around the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa's reservation.
The company still requires additional permits from the Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The AP said the tribe sued Enbridge in 2019 to force the removal of the line from its reservation after land easements for the line on its lands expired in 2013.
