You swear a oath to defend the US and to obey the guy in charge. Does not mean you have to agree with him just follow orders.
As for the nukes. They have said the same thing every time the west has allow Ukrane to go to the next level. Beside do you have any idea how much maintenance is needed to keep a nuke ready to fire. Maintenance that has not been done since the USSR left. Beside the US has made it very clear that if Putin fired off a nuke the answering one is on him. Leaders tend not to want that.
