A First in Canada A First in Canada - Indigenous-Owned Mining Royalty Company Nations Royalty (NRC.v NRYCF)
As the only mining royalty company in the world that is majority-owned by Indigenous people, Nations Royalty (NRC.v NRYCF) aims to create financial independence for the Nisga’a and other First Nations through pooled royalties from mining benefit agreements.
Currently, the Nisga’a hold a 77% stake in the company, which manages royalties from five projects in BC's Golden Triangle with plans to expand by partnering with other Indigenous groups to diversify its portfolio, offering investors lower-risk exposure to the Canadian mining sector.
Current Royalty Interests
Nations Royalty holds benefit payment entitlements from five resource properties in Canada, including:
- Brucejack Gold Mine (Newmont Corporation): A high-grade gold mine.
- KSM Deposit (Seabridge Gold Inc.): A major copper-gold-silver-molybdenum deposit.
- Premier Gold Project (Ascot Resources Ltd.): First gold was poured in April 2024.
- Red Mountain Gold Deposit (Ascot Resources Ltd.): Another significant gold property.
- Kitsault Molybdenum Deposit (New Moly LLC): A fully permitted brownfield site actively being developed.
Backed by financier Frank Giustra and led by interim CEO Rob McLeod, NRC seeks to build a top-five royalty firm while empowering Indigenous communities to access capital markets, overcome systemic barriers, and manage their wealth independently. Notably, NRC exemplifies a transformative step toward Indigenous economic empowerment and collective enterprise.
