Tariffs

TariffsHow should BC take the talk about a possible 25% tariff? Is it merely a negotiation tactic?

Max Cameron (political science professor UBC) said the B.C. industries that could be hit the hardest include softwood lumber, energy, electricity, mining, agriculture and fisheries.

"So it really would affect everyone," he added.

"And almost for certain, if Trump were to follow through on this threat, it would drive us into a recession. There would be real hardship for Canadians and British Columbians in particular."

So BC Hydro's exported power will become more expensive. However, can't export too much, as electricity is needed in the province. Still a large source of revenue could vanish.

Tariffs on fisheries and mining. That will be tough.
