Challenges going green

Challenges going greenSure a long wait for action. Same could be said for the proposed biodiesel plant where I live.

At least the refinery is seeking city approval for a new railyard north of the refinery. To handle canola based biodiesel, and future hydro treated renewable diesel & ethanol for future expansions. Some carbon capture infrastructure also planned.

Catalytic hydrogen treating is the scientific term. Petro Canada running trials in Prince George and lower Mainland BC for a few years now (50-100-% HRD blend). But will be adoped by Co-op here as seems to work well.

At least step one for the old refinery. By 2050 net zero emissions goal is being planned. Details are lacking. Maybe carbon capture and tree planting.

2500-3000 temporary jobs await during construction. And about 150-300 permanant jobs during production. No date for start of construction. Even that has been pushed ahead a few years

-----------------

Now what about the Hecate offshore wind project?

Faces similar challenges as the refinery. Inflation and regulatory approval. The refinery expansion was projected at $2 billion in 2022. Now over $2.5 billion and will go higher.

There is a residential area just 300 meters away and people are not happy. Also all being built over a protected aquifer.

Inflation is a real risk in any project. Windfarms, refineries, pipelines, etc. Quite scary when think about it.
