WHY's 2013 Tech Report

Page 37
The principal alteration associated with the ultramafic rock of this study is serpentinization. This is a
metasomatic process involving the hydration of magnesium or iron rich olivine. In the case of Mg rich
olivine, the general reaction is:

Foresterite + Aqueous Silica → Serpentine; and
3Mg2SiO4 +SiO2 +4H2O → 2Mg3Si2O5(OH)4

Page 38
Depending on the nature of the serpentinization reaction and the scale of the hydrothermal cell, the
alteration process can result in a depletion of iron from the original material. In this case the following
reaction can occur:

Olivine + Fluid → Magnetite + Serpentine + Brucite; and
(Mg Fe)SiO 4 + H 2O + O 2 → Fe 3O 4 + Mg 3Si2O 5(OH) 4 + Mg(OH) 2.
Depending on oxygen fugacity, the magnetite can stay in solution and be transported out of the host
ultramafic unit resulting in a relative increase in magnesium (Mg) content (Frost and Beard, 2007).

Tech Report handles the subject of Serpentization by,
mentioning the affects to other formations by serpentine intrusion or..... morph outcome.

Online web sesrches point to - Chrysolite

idealized chemical formula of chrysotile is Mg3(Si2O5)(OH)4

Lizardite ?
Mindat

Lizardite is volumetrically the most common serpentine subgroup species. It is typically a product of retrograde metamorphism, replacing olivine and orthopyroxene (enstatite) in ultramafic igneous rocks and some magnesian skarns.

Can contain nickel and form a Lizardite-Npouite Series.

Chrysotile and lizardite are lower temperature polymorphs, whereas antigorite is a higher temperature (>250°C) serpentine mineral.

Lizardite polytypes known: 1T (formerly called 1A), 6T1, 2H1, 2H2, 1M.

May be interstratified with saponite: UM2002-39-SiO:AlCaFeHMg.

It commonly contains some intermixed chrysotile, typically as asbestiform veins, forming a potential asbestos hazard when processing.

GoMike... i would think the best path would be...
Have WHY better define the Geology other than.... Serpentine mineral or Lizardite.
Or speaking generalities on local geology or effects of serpentine morph.
Serpentine is very broad.

Hey... 2013 Tech does make mention of, carbonate pocket zones too.

Was Record Ridge drilled prior to
2014 CIM 43 101 standards ?

WHY has a nice resource but... so does MGX.
Tease.
