Environmental Assessment
Environmental Assessment The windfarm proposal, despite having a significantly smaller footprint, requires a new environmental assessment certificate. The last one expired because the project was not substantially started. Requires public consultation.
The environmental assessment process ensures that any potential environmental, economic, social, cultural and health effects that may occur during the lifetime of a major project are thoroughly assessed. The above, in addition to finding buyers for the electricity at competitive rates and being profitable.
I'm not going post anymore if it takes forever. Add in the no vote back in 2010 and it will be tough going. There are voices that would oppose any development in Hecate Strait. Also now a new requirement for certificate, "prior informed consent" must be received. Not writing-off the project, but maybe can also look at other options. East Coast potential. Good chance of an offshore project being profitable and large from the get-go. Elemental Energy is there already building onshore windfarms. Environmental Assessments in British Columbia The previous post about the pipeline for Ksi Lisims LNG might be on the same path. Some don't want any pipeline or LNG development. The developers say the project has a substantial start and big money has been already spent, therefore don't require a new certificate.
Interesting decision coming next year. if need a new certificate, the LNG project will be delayed for years.
