Progress Towards Commercial Milestones

In today's press release, HPQ has shares a significant update on its proprietary Fumed Silica Reactor (FSR) project.

 

The reactor, developed through its subsidiary HPQ Silica Polvere Inc. (HSPI) in partnership with PyroGenesis Inc., is moving closer to commercial validation with the completion of extended refractory conditioning work on the pilot system.

Streamlining Operations for Consistent Production

PyroGenesis, the project's technology supplier, recently concluded critical conditioning work to improve the flow of fumed silica within the reactor. These adjustments are designed to ensure a steady output to downstream recovery equipment. As announced in November, the first process material tests are set to begin in December 2024.

 

Commenting on the milestone, Bernard Tourillon, President & CEO of HPQ Silicon, emphasized the project’s transformative potential:

"Our FSR technology aims to revolutionize the fumed silica market with a cost-effective, high-efficiency solution that sets new industry benchmarks. While process improvements are expected during scale-up, our mission to redefine the market remains unwavering."

Prototype Advancements and Quality Assurance

The FSR pilot plant represents a cutting-edge system with integrated sub-systems designed for efficient production and packaging of fumed silica. The development process addresses challenges inherent in scaling from lab-scale production to industrial-grade output, targeting consistency in surface area and rheological properties such as viscosity.

 

PyroGenesis CEO P. Peter Pascali highlighted the importance of quality assurance during scaling efforts:

"Our goal is to refine operational processes to ensure HSPI’s clients receive premium materials, establishing a foundation for sustainable commercial production."

Path to Commercial Readiness

The pilot plant’s eventual full-capacity operation is expected to achieve a production rate of 161 kilograms per day, translating to an annual output of 50 metric tons.

 

With milestones achieved and rigorous testing underway, HPQ is progressing toward semi-continuous operations and discussions for potential offtake agreements. The company remains committed to delivering innovative solutions that meet the growing demand for sustainable, high-quality silica materials.
