RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:Mention of of Deepwater HarborYes a2bman, I was lol at your crab joke at floppy chick catching crabs on cgx island. I got the joke. Yes silt. When I worked there going out to the rig on the chopper you can see that the muddy waters extend many kilometers out into the ocean. The entire country's inland coastal area must be nutrient rich sediment.
Those rivers carry piles of sediment and I can see why dredging is a big activity there and also why gold mining of the river sediment there is a huge business. Lots of the mining is clandestine and illegal from what I've seen on Youtube videos of the rainforests dotted with hundreds of microscale mining operations. Tough, but lucrative business. Most of the interior of Guyana has no road access so the gov has a difficult time controlling it.
But the erosion of the Guyana sheild has loaded those river sediments with piles of gold, diamonds etc. Saw a great video of Kaieteur Falls which is the largest single-drop waterfall in the world. It is located on the Potaro River in Kaieteur National Park, central Essequibo Territory.
So when people talk or ask about the viability of gold mining operations on this board I wonder about what kind of mining because from the videos most seem to be dredge type mining of river beds and banks, if there is road access and if it's legal. But I never wonder about if the gold is there or not. It's there.
