QatarEnergy has agreed with Harmattan Energy Limited (HEL), an indirect subsidiary of Chevron Corporation, to acquire a working interest in the PEL 90 on Block 2813B offshore Namibia.
QatarEnergy will acquire a 27.5% interest, while HEL (the operator) will retain a 52.50% interest.
The other partners on the block are Trago Energy Limited and Namcor, each holding a 10% interest.
Commenting on this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, said: “This agreement demonstrates our commitment to continue expanding our upstream footprint in Namibia and the strengthening of our partnership with our valued partner Chevron.”
His Excellency Minister Al-Kaabi added: “Following successful drilling operations in our other acreage in Namibia, we look forward to soon beginning drilling the first exploration well on this block. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Namibian authorities and our partners for their support.”
Block 2813B (PEL0090) lies about 200 kilometres offshore of Namibia and approximately 70 kilometres north of QatarEnergy’s Venus discovery.
The licence covers an area of 5,433 km² at a water depth of 2,400 to 3,300 meters.
This follows the November 24, 2024 deal where QatarEnergy agreed with TotalEnergies to acquire an additional 5.25% interest in block 2913B (PEL 56) and an additional 4.695% interest in block 2912 (PEL 91), both located in the Orange Basin, offshore Namibia.
Subject to customary approvals, QatarEnergy’s participating interests in both licenses will increase to 35.25% in block 2913B and 33.025% in block 2912.
TotalEnergies (the operator) will hold 45.25% in block 2913B and 42.475% in block 2912.
The other partners in the two licenses are Impact Oil & Gas, which holds 9.5% of each of the two permits, and Namcor, which has 10% in block 2913B and 15% in block 2912.
Commenting on this occasion, His Excellency Mr. Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, said: “We are pleased to expand QatarEnergy’s footprint in Namibia’s upstream sector. This agreement marks another important step in working collaboratively with our partners towards the development of the Venus discovery located on block 2913B.”
His Excellency Minister Al-Kaabi added: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Namibian authorities and our partners for their support, and we look forward to delivering on our exploration and potential development program.”
Blocks 2913B and 2912 are located about 300 kilometres offshore Namibia, in water depths ranging from 2600 to 3800 meters.
