How exactly does someone who doesn't like a stock put their money where their mouth is other than by shorting it?

I might do it under these circumstances on a stock trading at a few bucks, but nobody with more than two brain cells shorts ANY stock trading for pennies.

All this talk here about shorters driving the stock lower has been a popular myth.
