Flocculation Process to Treat Cyanide in Waste Water?
Flocculation Process to Treat Cyanide in Waste Water?Wonder if YTG and PWC's 'experts' have considered this yet to deal with all the cyanide laced watewater so that just maybe they can safely release the treated waste water back intio Haggert Creek?
I've only had a quick glance at this but it sure looks like something that YTG and PWC need to seriously look considering the amount of cyanide wastewater they are trying to deal with. Para 3 of the introduction looks interesting....whereas it refers to using an electrochemical technology process.
Excerpt:
Both electrochemical oxidation and electro-Fenton leads to the oxidation of cyanide to cyanate and then, cyanate is mineralized to carbon dioxide and nitrogen. At this point, electrochemical oxidation attained around 90% of cyanide removal by using several anode materials such as mixed metal oxides, platinum, PbO2 or boron doped diamond [21], [22], [23]. Likewise, electro-Fenton with reticulated vitreous carbon as cathode material reached over 90% of cyanide oxidation to cyanate by electrochemically generated hydrogen peroxide [24]. On the contrary, electrochemical coagulation is mainly based on the release of coagulants from a sacrificial anode. These species reduce the solubility of free cyanide in solution by different mechanisms. In literature, efficiencies over 90% for the removal of cyanides were reported by using electrochemical coagulation with iron electrodes, although no in-depth studies on removal mechanisms were found [25], [26], [27].
