Thermal Energy Signs Letter Of Intent With Large U.S. Utility To Prepare A THERMALONOx(TM) Feasibility Analysis and Implementation Proposal
Ottawa, Ontario
Study and Proposal to verify the viability of THERMALONOx(TM) nitrogen oxides emissions control technology for Northern Indiana Public Services Company's (or NIPSCO's) coal-fired power station
Thermal Energy International Inc. (CDNX:TMG) announced today it has signed a Letter Of Intent (LOI) to provide a feasibility analysis and implementation proposal for installing a THERMALONOx(TM) nitrogen oxides (NOx) emission control system at a coal-fired power generation station owned and operated by Northern Indiana Public Service company (NIPSCO).
Thermal Energy has been contracted to verify that the Company's patented THERMALONOx(TM) technology can be implemented to cost-effectively reduce NOx emissions.
NIPSCO, a division of NiSource Inc. www.nisource.com, is located in the northwest corner of Indiana approximately 30 miles from downtown Chicago, Ill. The second largest electric distribution company in the state of Indiana, NIPSCO provides electric power to 430,000 customers from four electric generating stations in the upper one-third of the state. NIPSCO's parent company, NiSource, also has regulated and unregulated natural gas operations covering the area from Texas to the Northern New England states. NiSource is openly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. NiSource completed its merger with Columbia Energy Group on Nov. 1, 2000, to create a super-regional energy powerhouse stretching from the Gulf of Mexico to Chicago and New England. The combined company has continued trading under the symbol ``NI'' on the New York Stock Exchange.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency NOx State Implementation Plan ``NOx SIP Call'' regulations take full effect in 2004, requiring power producers in 20 states and the District of Columbia to reduce NOx emissions to a maximum of 0.15 lb./mmBTU.
``We are confident that our THERMALONOx(TM) technology is the most cost-effective, safest, and most efficient NOx reduction solution for coal-fired power plants, including NIPSCO's,'' said Thomas Hinke, President and CEO of Thermal Energy. ``We are very encouraged that another large U.S. utility in addition to American Electric Power (AEP) www.aep.com, is taking a leading role in the early assessment of our THERMALONOx(TM) technology''.
``We look forward to moving beyond this LOI stage and to implementing this project,'' said Mr. Hinke.
