A poem, courtesy of the T.IPL thread...I thought this was cute. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all... In 1882, Clement Moore wrote "A Visit From Saint Nicholas" as a gift to his children. Over the years this poem has been adapted to many subjects and themes. The following is David Yager's version (IPL President). 2001 Christmas Poem T'was the night before Christmas and the ‘patch is a mess, Gas prices are down, crude oil in distress. Stock prices have crumbled, a feeling of gloom, All the clear signs of the end of the boom. The year started fast, it was crazy back then, Crude oil over thirty and gas over ten, California was dark, gas bills rising fast, The question for most was, “How long can this last?” Forever we thought, as is always the case, When the oilpatch rocks at a very high pace. “Just shut up and pay” the consumers were told, As their heating bills rose and the weather got cold. At OPEC the oil sheiks looked pretty smart, By working together instead of apart, In holding up prices at levels not seen, Since folks thirty-five were only fifteen. So off to the fab shops the service hands went, Ensuring at once that the cash was all spent, Building new rigs and some wireline trucks, To be ready for work when the oil business sucks. In hindsight we knew this would very soon pass, When we started to look to the Arctic for gas. Consumers were howling, their blood starts to boil, When they’re paying too much for their gas and their oil. So the ‘patch must admit to a startling confession, That the high price of fuel had caused a recession. A reminder of who has the clear upper hand, The result was a very big drop in demand. So gas started downward quite early in summer, Then followed by oil, my Lord what a bummer. By fall it was over, a big two year run, The profits and prosperity pretty well done. But a year has 12 months, as did 2001, So let’s not lose sight of the great things we’ve done. A year to remember, a total success, For an oil service company we call IPS. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
