TORONTO, March 26 /CNW/ - (TSE: CAE) CAE today announced contracts for the sale of three full flight simulators--one to China Southern Airlines and two to Lufthansa Flight Training Berlin. The company has also been awarded a significant simulator upgrade contract by FedEx. The total value of these contracts is approximately C$50 million.
China Southern Airlines has ordered a full flight simulator for a Boeing 737-800 with a CAE Maxvue(TM) visual system. The simulator will be operational by the end of 2002 in China Southern's Zhuhai flight training centre in Guangdong Province, China. The airline already operates six CAE simulators and has been a CAE customer for more than 10 years.
Lufthansa Flight Training Berlin GmbH has ordered two full flight simulators for the Fairchild Dornier 728JET. The simulators will be installed in the Lufthansa training facility near Berlin Schonefeld Airport. The first Fairchild Dornier 728JET simulator will be operational in mid-2003 and the second device will be delivered later that year. This purchase brings to 21 the number of simulators Lufthansa has ordered from CAE since its first purchase in 1971.
FedEx has signed a major program to update their CAE-built full flight simulators: six Boeing MD-11, one Airbus A310 and two A300-600 simulators. The update on the simulators, located in Memphis, Tennessee, and Anchorage, Alaska, will ensure commonality with the technology used on the aircraft.
The MD-11 full flight simulators will be updated with CAE's latest state- of-the-art technology, by replacing the host computer, the instructor station, the electronic system for flight controls and integrating the latest aircraft data for aerodynamics, engines, autopilot, sound and flight controls. One of the MD-11 simulators will be fitted with CAE's Maxvue(TM) visual system. The Airbus simulators will be enhanced with Global Positioning System (GPS) simulations.
