In the 21st century, its about time. Ondeo wins Nova Scotia wastewater contract
HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA — Ondeo, the water division of Paris-based SUEZ, has a design, build and operate (DBO) contract for three wastewater treatment plants and a wastewater collection system in Halifax.
The deal, Ondeo said, represents total revenues of CAD$600 million (US$385 million) and is the largest project of its kind in scope and size in North America.
Ondeo's selection is a direct result of the Halifax Regional Municipality's effort to maximize the environmental benefits of the project for Halifax Harbour, and increase the economic benefits for the Nova Scotia area.
Ondeo formed a group of local partners under the leadership of its subsidiary, United Water and Ondeo Degrémont, its business specialized in water treatment plants. The partnership operates under the name Halifax Regional Environmental Partnership, the company said.
The project will include a design, construction, and operation and maintenance contract for three wastewater treatment plants, and covers the design and construction of a wastewater collection system, which will then be managed by the Halifax Regional Municipality, said the company.
The project is expected to yield extensive environmental, economic, and recreational benefits, according to Ondeo, which said that currently more than 120 million liters of untreated sewage flow into the harbor every day.
These conditions should improve as soon as the project is completed and operations begin, Ondeo said.
Ondeo is a global water solutions provider whose key businesses are water and wastewater services, water treatment plant engineering, industrial process water treatment services and total water cycle management.
SUEZ is a global service group active in water and waste services, among other services.
