RE: Bush, loose cannon?Vic, Tariffs on softwood lumber pre-dates Bush by a lot of years (20?). Look at it from the point of view of small western logger. He has to buy his stands of timber from the BLM, forest service or private owner, fight with all the enviro-rads to be able to cut and truck and then compete against "free' imports from Canada. Easy solution, tell your prov. govs to co-operate with your feds, put a good tax on lumber yourselves, then lower your GST with the proceeds! The US needs lumber, will buy it so you might as well keep the money yourselves!
Tariffs on steel did not apply to Canada or Mexico because of the free trade agreements!
As for oil!!! Yikes!! The biggest environmental disaster ever was the dumping of oil into the Red Sea and the firing of all the Kuwaiti wells by Saddam. Now the enviro-rads have seen to it that we can not drill in Alaska but we keep on buying from Saddam so he then has the cash to finance a terrorism war on civilisation! We can not blame that on Bush!
Charles, I must be older than you. What's that saying? "If you are not a liberal at 20, you have no heart. If you are not a conservative at 40 you have no head!"
When I saw what Milosevic and his crew did to the Bosnians, even while under the protection of UN troops from canada, Netherlands, France et al at Srebenicia and how they sat up in the hills with their artillery pieces and shelled civilians in Sarajevo, and when those Somali warlords sent their wives and kids to Toronto to live in safety at Cdn gov. expense while they shot at US, Cdn, and other UN troops in Mogadishu, I became a lot more hawkish. hope I do not sound too red-neck, but these are not Boy scouts that we are dealing with.
