Voisey's Bay DealHi turr...gobbly..buckeyejay el.
I agree that the signing of the VB deal will herald a whole fresh round of mineral exploration in the province. In particular, Vulcan's TL property near the VB deposit should once again attract the interest of major mining companies.I suspect that Falconbridge opted out prematurely, and it's decision was most likely unrelated to the prospects for the property. Here is a brief excerpt from Vulcan's press release on the TL exploration which points to the tremendous prospectivity for the TL property:
The TL Property is a nickel (Ni)-copper (Cu)-cobalt (Co)-PGE prospect approximately 50 km northwest of the Voisey's Bay Ni-Cu-Co deposit. Drilling by a previous operator intersected several mineralized zones including 23.7 metres of 0.47% Ni, 0.16% Cu and
0.02% Co including 5.2 metres (16-21.2 m depth) of 1.15% Ni, 0.42% Cu, 0.04% Co, 0.25 grams/tonne palladium and 0.11 grams/tonne platinum.

Look for the Sept/98 news release giving details of exploration results. Here is an excerpt:
The 1998 exploration on the property consisted of Max-Min ground geophysical surveys, soil and rock geochemical sampling, prospecting and more complete mapping over the 1997 exploration grid. ...
During 1996 and 1997, exploration consisting of airborne and ground geophysical surveys, rock and soil geochemical sampling, and prospecting/mapping was carried out.
I am certain that we'll hear more from these two companies in the month's ahead.
