Basically Share capital does not appear on P&L (from where deficit is calculated). You assume it does as some sort of income, therefore becuase it is not in the bottom line (profit or loss) you assume it has been spent.
Money raised from shareholders (sharehlder capital or equity) actually appears on the balance sheet under liabilities.
P&L shows you the loss / deficit run up by the company since inception, balance sheet shows that it has been financed from shareholder equity.
If we are talking payment in alcohol, I prefer rum or vodka. Bottle will do fine, but won't say nop to a case.
