In mid November natural gas prices hit $6.50 per thousand cubic fee ouch! Thats triple last years count and will likely get worse.
Gas service in California are already shutting down their service to 80 industrial customers almost weekly.
The surging economy, incresed use of natural gas for home heat, and other fas fired electricity generation plants have sent demand soaring. Also high oil prices have also played a role. While many industrial users and utitilies usually switch to oil when natural prices go high this year thats not an option. Gas fields are depteded faster than ever, while exploration spending has yet to recover from a steep decline three years ago. Old man Winter could add to this year's problems. The last three winters were the warmets on recort but that looks like its going to end. The National Weather Service forecasts are saying that we will see a normal winter this year with more supply disruptions and prices going even higher.
Canada is having problems increasing production.
Well what this spell out for this fund? The oil and natural gas price hikes look to be a boon for the natiohn's coaol industry. Becasue of US environmental concerns, coal has lost ground to natuaral gas-fired facilities in recent years. Now the freefall may slow. Wisnconsin Encergy corp a gas and eelctirc utility in Milwaukee, announced it is looking to build two new coal-fired plants in order to have a diverse fuel base. That's the first new caol based generation prposed in the US in at least five years. As long as oil and gas stay high... coal will look better and better making this a buy!
