TORONTO, Aug. 6 /CNW/ - (TSX: CAE; NYSE: CGT) CAE today announced that Lieutenant General Ellis D. "Don" Parker has been named Chairman of the Board of CAE USA and that General Michael E. Ryan, U.S. Air Force (Ret.), and Admiral Leighton W. "Snuffy" Smith, Jr., U.S. Navy (Ret.), have been appointed to the CAE USA board as outside directors. General Parker has served on the Board since 1992 as an outside director and prior to his retirement in 1992 was Director of the Army staff, Headquarters, Department of the Army. He is currently President of the Army Aviation Association of America.
"We're extremely pleased General Ryan and Admiral Smith accepted our offer to join the board of CAE USA," said Derek H. Burney, President and CEO, CAE. "Their leadership and guidance will play a valuable role in promoting our success as a prime contractor in the vital U.S. market."
General Ryan retired in 2001 as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force, where he was responsible for 700,000 active-duty, Guard, Reserve and civilian forces. As a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Ryan and the other service chiefs functioned as the military advisers to the U.S. Secretary of Defense, National Security Council, and the President.
Admiral Smith retired in 1996 after 34 years in the U.S. Navy. Until his retirement, Admiral Smith was Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Commander-in-Chief, Allied Forces Southern Europe (NATO). Admiral Smith was also Commander of NATO's forces charged with implementing the Dayton Peace Accords in Bosnia.
The primary role of the CAE USA board is to oversee the implementation and compliance with the Special Security Agreement between CAE and the U.S. Department of Defense.
