GOLD SHINES ON BAY STREETIn Canadian markets gold and real estate issues drew buyers. Telecoms and consumer discretionary stocks were in negative territory, but the other subindices cleaved close to the unchanged mark. The TSX composite gained 32.61 points or 0.48% to 6,772.66, and the small cap Venture index jumped 19.32 points or 1.78% to 1,102.68. Gold shares shone brightly with a 2.22% advance. Kinross Gold (TSX: T.K) sprinted 3.67% to $3.95. Goldcorp (TSX: T.G) rallied 3% to $20.59. Placer Dome (TSX: T.PDG) announced it has completed the acquisition of Australia's AurionGold. The protracted purchase included multiple extensions of the bid. Placer's shares climbed 2.17% to $18.30. Smaller cap gold stocks performed especially well. McWatters Mining (TSX: T.MWA) gained 7.69% to $0.28 and Wheaton River (TSX: T.WRM) raced 12% to $1.77.
