Thermal Energy successfully completes FLU-ACE® Heat Recovery Technology upgrade
for satisfied Hospital Customer
OTTAWA, ONTARIO January 17th, 2002 Thermal Energy International Inc. (the “Corporation”) (TSX-V: “TMG”) is pleased to announce that it has recently completed an upgrade on the 14 year-old FLU-ACE® Heat Recovery System for the 464 bed Centre Hospitalier Des Vallées De L’Outaouais (or Gatineau Hospital, Gatineau, Québec). This system upgrade has proven to be very successful operationally, as the expected energy efficiency improvement, optimum energy savings and reliable operation, have been confirmed by monitored data.
Through recent monitoring, the system has proven to be achieving between 17.5% to 22% natural gas fuel savings for the customer, corresponding to waste flue gas temperatures ranging between 350 °F to 485°F entering the FLU-ACE® and when leaving at 90°F (or 32C°). This energy efficiency performance data has been gathered during the current January 2003 winter operating conditions. The original FLU-ACE® system was installed at the Gatineau Hospital in 1989, and was modified, upgraded, and modernized over the course of the last year in order to maximize energy savings while accommodating and integrating with current hospital heating system demand and capacity requirements.
“We are very satisfied with the improved FLU-ACE® Heat Recovery System energy efficiency performance and operating reliability”, stated Emilien Pelletier, Directeur adjoint des services techniques of the Centre Hospitalier Des Vallées De L’Outaouais. “In addition, we appreciate Thermal Energy’s professional engineering dedication, patience, and perseverance in supporting and advising us through our recent 5 month heating plant re-certification process with the Québec Government”.
“Our goal was to upgrade and modernize one of our original FLU-ACE® systems. We are extremely pleased that the upgrade has met and exceeded both our and our customers’ expectations. The system is performing as expected while generating between 17% to 22% savings on winter-period fuel bills”, stated Tom Hinke, P.Eng, President & CEO of Thermal Energy International Inc. “The renewed Gatineau FLU-ACE® installation serves as another testimonial and a strong, long-standing reference for supporting the acceleration of Thermal Energy’s aggressive hospital and commercial building marketing program designed to increase sales in 2003”.
