RE: Bush to U.N.: We will not wait
RE: Bush to U.N.: We will not waitMajor airlines are in trouble becuase they are not adapting. Not because travel is in decline, it is still a growth industy.
I know it is still only a mere european player but Ryanair posted results this month with 50% annual increase in business. They are predicting similar growth for the next 4 years. They also just swallowed up one of their low cost competitiors BUZZ, which was owned by KLM and was loss making.
They are suceessful because they cut costs, fly to cheaper airports outside the major cities, and sell direct bypassing the Travel agents, and the GDS's. Ryanair and Easyjet between them now how 20% of intra european flights. Both grew 50% last year. They will soo be too big for intra europe alone.
In the US I suspect Southwest. the pioneers of low cost are not one of the companies in trouble?
I think there is a difference in attitude to risk on either side of the atlantic, I doubt Iraq will affect fliying much here, but it is certain to in the US, and will certainly hit european tourist trade when the americans stop coming here in so many numbers. Even foot and mouth disease reduced numbers coming to the UK, One of my customers is a retail shop and they were hit hard.
Short term that will impact on SCS, well not that much, we still don't seem to be making any significant transactional income that we have heard of. But as long as they survive, it's a great buying opportunity. I have almost doubled my position in the last two months, and like many I am very impressed with Rick.
Really hope fears are unfounded and we are involved in the Galileo deal, if we are it is really big news, a real watershed imo. If we are not, it is big news too.
