Oncolytics Biotech Inc. is a clinical-stage biotechnology company. The Company is focused on developing pelareorep, an intravenously delivered immunotherapeutic agent that activates the innate and adaptive immune systems and weakens tumor defense mechanisms. Lee said the Dalhousie chair will allow him to recruit several more top-notch experts in the field and direct the science in the two areas he feels are the most important: how cancer spreads and how to use the body's own immune system to fight it. Ultimately, he plans to build the best cancer research team in the country in Halifax, thanks to the $12-million endowment. "At the U of C, I just don't see that kind of money forthcoming," said Lee. i guess he couldn't count on any great donation coming from a certain U of C alumnus and former student who is attempting to commercialize the reovirus? interesting.
