Exploration on agenda
By CP
HALIFAX -- Canadian Superior Energy Inc. has acquired two major exploration licences off the coast of Nova Scotia after committing to spend about $14.1 million to search for oil and natural gas.
The Calgary company said yesterday it won a bid to acquire about 148,000 hectares of offshore drilling rights from the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board, which administers the offshore area.
DOMINANT POSITION
The licences are named Marauder, with 125,000 hectares, and Marconi, with 23,500 hectares. The winning bid commits Canadian Superior to spend nearly $12.9 million to explore the Marauder site and just over $1.2 million million on Marconi.
"With the addition of these two new exploration licences, Canadian Superior now holds a dominant position offshore Nova Scotia and is one of the largest acreage holders in the area, with interests in six exploration licences, totaling (519,000 hectares)," company president Greg Noval said in a release.
