Prospects for gold explored in new book
By Observer Staff
SANA’A - A new book entitled “Gold in Yemen” has been published by engineer Abdul-Hakim Ahmed Othman. The brunt of the book deals with indicators for significant gold deposits in Yemen, their potential benefits to the national economy, and opportunities for investment in the field.
The book is aimed at a core of Yemen-based investors who lack experience in this industry. Much attention is given to historical summaries of gold and the geographical distribution of gold and gold producers around the world. The author reviews metals, ores and precipitates as well, along with ways of extracting gold from ore, turning any novice reader into an informed expert and helping generate local enthusiasm for this unexploited industry with very lucrative potential.
Yemen’s gold-mining tradition dates back to the kingdom of Sheba, when substantial amounts of gold were extracted from quartz deposits; the industry has since gone extinct, however, despite the fact that numerous untapped gold deposits have been discovered in recent geological surveys, some of them enormous. “Gold in Yemen” includes diagrams, tables, and maps of many of these gold-bearing sites.
Taiz-based Abdul-Hakim Othman has worked for long time as head of the Mineral Department at the Geological Survey and has acted supervisor for gold sampling in the field. He has written four other publications in the field of minerals and precious stones.
