Indicator size - dsel,HalcrowDsel - thanks for the links. I read them, and am not interested in the actual composition of garnets, but am more interested in size distribution. Fipke had been finding indicators in his till samples typically on the order of 10-20 indicators per sample. Then he found a beach on a lake with a 2' wide band of indicators in the beach sand. There, he found close to 10,000 indicators from a single sample. Certainly, he was close to the pipe. These had been winnowed and worked on that beach and probably reduced in size. Later, Mark Fipke found a chrome diopside the size of a cooked pea, and they knew they were right next to the pipe. We all know that Ekati has lots of large diamonds, as does Diavik. Large diamonds are important (an understatement, of course), and a Shore Rep once told me that the small diamonds will pay the bills, but the large diamonds will be the profit. So, I'm thinking about the 'mega-crystic' unit at Shore and wondering if there is a correlation between large indicators and large diamonds, or....is there no correlation at all? Maybe large diamonds can coexist in a population of small indicators, or vice versa. Just wondering if there had been any literature out there referring specifically to this relationship.
Halcrow - you sure run hot & cold. One second your slamming, the next second your helping. But, at least you help...sometimes.
